My mom and I found ourselves being home alone as my dad went to a concert. We decided to pamper ourselves a bit. It took a very long time to find DIY face things that we could do because our ingredients were seriously lacking. I wanted to do a yogurt and red wine face mask because I had tried it before with my friend Dhalyn, but we didn't have plain yogurt. So, off I went on a googling frenzy to find good and simple face mask things to do. As I went looking I pinned a few on my pinterest to try later when I could actually get to a store to buy ingredients.
We started out by cleansing our faces with a super old Apricot cleanser that I should probably replace. My mom already said her face was cleaner than it had been for a while. So, it was off to a good start.
I was super excited to try the Blackhead remover one because that is my biggest frustration especially on my nose. It seems super simple, just 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. However, we did not have baking soda so I kept searching. (We are going to buy baking soda at the store tomorrow to try it).
I found a face mask designed for acne- prone skin to help cleanse it. Now, I don't really have super acne-prone skin, but we actually had cinnamon and honey so off we went. It was super easy to make, just 3 teaspoons of honey and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. I wasn't expecting it to be so cinnamon heavy but it was! My mom just put it on her nose area because she said it was the dirtiest. I started out just putting it in the same area, but then realized that I get zits in other places more so I lightly patted around my face wherever I get gross skin. The result was a beautiful, lumpy and uneven brownish face. Oh yeah, attractive. I didn't keep it on for too long because I was worried about what might happen if I did (I'm a worrier). After washing it off, which took a little bit of work because honey is quite sticky, my face did feel very clean. But the best part was how delicious I smelled the whole time-like fresh apple pie on my face.

I also found a nice moisturizing mask with avocado, honey and a little bit of milk. I saw many versions of this mask with lemon juice or other slight variations, but as said earlier, our ingredients were lacking. So I took half an avocado, a little milk to make it slightly more pasty and a big guess of how much honey. We mixed it all up and got this results. I don't necessarily love avocado, but it still smelled pretty great.
We then slathered it all over our faces and looked pretty beautiful. So, this mask was where the "adventure" began. After maybe a minute or so of having it on, I thought it started to itch a little bit. I just thought, eh it's fine, my face just isn't used to having stuff on it. My mom kept saying how much she loved it, it felt so cooling and nice. I did think it felt nice, but not quite as great as she thought. We continued watching Graham Norton until it was time to take it off. All the while, I was worrying about the slight itch and strange feelings.
So after about 25 minutes of having it on, I didn't want to wait 5 more minutes and washed it off. While I was washing it off, I noticed how itchy my face was. About half way through the rinsing it off, I noticed some nice bumps on basically my whole lower face. I immediately pictured Hitch (from the movie Hitch) all swelled up from eating shell fish. Well, I figured out why it was itchy- Avocado and my face do NOT mix well. My mom went to the neighbors to ask for some benedryl. My neighbors then went to the store to buy me some benedryl (very nice people). As this happened, I kept patting a cool rag all over my face because it kept me from totally panicking. The irony was that just before we started this whole pampering session, I thought to myself "well, I hope this doesn't mess up my face." Luckily, the bumps went away and stopped itching slowly through the night. I would have liked to end our pamper night on a slightly better note, but it worked out okay and my mom loved the mask.
The frustrating thing is that my face really was super moisturized and lovely. My red bumps that I have from my skin being so dehydrated for so long have gotten smoother and much less red. So, I'm a little angry that I can't really use the mask anymore because it did work very well.
Well, what do you do when you pamper yourself? Do you have any great DIY Beauty things you like to do? (Preferably without avocado).
